Grounded in the Science of Reading
LitLab was designed by former classroom teachers, literacy specialists, and researchers to address a gap that most supplemental programs leave open: the bridge from decoding to fluent, connected reading. As reading scientist Louisa Moats wrote, “fluent, accurate decoding is a hallmark of skilled reading,” and LitLab is purpose-built to develop exactly that skill through high-volume, high-quality practice with decodable text. LitLab meets the ESSA Tier IV standard of evidence, demonstrating a strong, research-based rationale for improving foundational literacy outcomes. The logic model was built in partnership with leading third-party researchers and is publicly available. A Tier II quasi-experimental efficacy study is currently underway.LitLab’s AI content engine achieves an average decodability score of 85%+ across all generated stories — compared to approximately 35% for general-purpose AI tools like ChatGPT, even with careful prompting. Every word in every story is evaluated against phoneme-grapheme correspondences for the specific lesson and program you’ve selected.
