# Sign In to LitLab: Teacher and Student Access Guide

> Sign in to LitLab as a teacher with Google, an email magic link, or through Clever or ClassLink, and get your students logged in too.

LitLab uses different sign-in flows for teachers and students — by design. Teacher accounts are secured through Google, email magic links, or district-managed SSO. Student access is intentionally simple: students enter a class code and tap their name, with no email or password required (or sign in via district-managed SSO).

    ## Signing In as a Teacher

    All teacher sign-ins happen at [litlab.ai/auth/signin](https://www.litlab.ai/auth/signin?utm_source=help_center\&utm_medium=docs\&utm_content=signing-in). LitLab is entirely passwordless — you never create or manage a LitLab password so your data stays secure.

    ### Option 1: Google

    Click **Continue with Google** and select your school Google account. If your browser already has your Google account active, sign-in is a single click.

    ### Option 2: Email Magic Link

    Enter your email address and click **Continue**. LitLab sends a one-time sign-in link to your inbox — click the link in the email to sign in. The link is valid for one hour.

    ### Option 3: Clever or ClassLink SSO

    If your school or district has connected LitLab to Clever or ClassLink, sign in through your district's Clever or ClassLink portal. See [SSO and Roster Sync](/account/sso-and-clever) for setup details.

    LitLab remembers which sign-in method you used last and shows a **Last used** badge next to it on your next visit.

      If you manage multiple classes, **use the same teacher account** for all of them. You can create multiple classes under a single account and switch between them from your dashboard.

    ## Signing In as a Student

    Students access LitLab at [litlab.ai/auth/class-code](https://www.litlab.ai/auth/class-code?utm_source=help_center\&utm_medium=docs\&utm_content=signing-in). They do **not** need an email address or a password.

    ### Manually Rostered Students

    Students from manually rostered classes (non-district SSO classes) sign in via Class Code or Direct URL.

    #### Step 1: Enter the Class Code

    The teacher provides a short class code (visible in your teacher dashboard next to "code:"). Students type this code on the sign-in screen to find their class.

    Instead of having students type the class code manually, you can also share a **direct URL** or **QR Code** from your teacher dashboard. To find the direct URL or QR code, click the Class Code box. The direct URL takes students straight to the name-selection screen, skipping the code entry step. A printable QR code is also available — great for posting near classroom devices.

    This is the recommended approach for Kindergarten and early first grade.

    #### Step 2: Select Name

    After entering the class code or clicking on the direct URL, students see a grid of names with profile avatars. They tap their name to sign in — no password required.

      Students select from a visual grid — there is no text field where they type their name. Early readers don't need to spell their name correctly to get started.

    #### Step 3: Start Reading

    Students land on their personal page, where they see assigned stories and can later create their own. They can begin reading immediately.

    ### Clever or ClassLink Students

    Students at schools with Clever or ClassLink can sign in directly through those portals — no class code needed.

## Troubleshooting Sign-In Issues

<Accordion title="I can't sign in to my teacher account">
  Try these steps in order:

  1. **Check that you're using the right sign-in method.** If you created your account with Google, use **Continue with Google** — entering your Google email as a magic link may create a separate account.
  2. **Check your inbox (and spam folder)** if you're using the email magic link. The link is valid for one hour.
  3. **Clear your browser cache and cookies**, then try again.
  4. **Use Incognito / Private mode** to rule out a browser extension conflict.
  5. **If you sign in via Clever or ClassLink** and see an error, confirm with your IT administrator that your account is provisioned and that the LitLab integration is active. If you see a "Clever Library not enabled" message, your IT admin needs to enable Clever Library access for your school.

<Accordion title="Students are having trouble logging in">
  **Students can't find the sign-in screen**

  For manually rostered classes (non-district SSO), make sure students are going to [litlab.ai/auth/class-code](https://www.litlab.ai/auth/class-code?utm_source=help_center\&utm_medium=docs\&utm_content=signing-in). You can also share the direct join link or QR code from your dashboard to avoid the code-entry step entirely.   **Students don't see their name on the roster**

  Their name may not have been added to your class yet. Open your class in the teacher dashboard and confirm the student appears on the roster.

  **A student selected the wrong name**

  Students can log out, return to the name-selection screen, and sign in as themselves.

  **Clever or ClassLink students are not appearing**

  If your school or district has updated your rosters, go to the **Students** tab on the teacher dashboard, find your class, and click on the three dots to the right of the class you want to update. Then click **"Re-sync roster with ClassLink/Clever"**.

<Accordion title="I accidentally created two teacher accounts">
  This can happen if you sign in with Google one time and use a Clever/ClassLink email another time, for example.
