# Set Up Your LitLab Teacher Account

> Create your LitLab teacher account, set up your first classroom, add students, and start assigning curriculum-aligned decodable stories in minutes.

Getting started with LitLab takes just a few minutes. The signup flow creates your account and connects you to your school — then you can browse stories, generate custom decodables, and roster your class.

## Create Your Account

  <Step title="Enter your name">
    Enter your first and last name — this is how you appear in LitLab.

    Choose the role that best describes you.

  <Step title="Find your school">
    Search for your school by name. If it isn't listed, enter your organization name and location manually.

      If your school or district already has a LitLab Pro subscription, your account is automatically upgraded when you select your school — no activation code needed.

After completing these steps, you'll land on the success screen with two options: **create your own decodable** or **roster your class to assign stories**.

## Set Up Your Classroom

Class setup happens from your teacher dashboard. How you set up depends on whether your school uses Clever/ClassLink.

    If you signed in through Clever or ClassLink, LitLab checks for your rosters automatically during signup.

        All your classes are pre-selected — deselect any you don't need in LitLab.

        Set a starting skill for your imported classes.

        Students and rosters sync automatically from your Student Information System going forward.

      <Step title="Create a class">
        From your dashboard, create a new class and give it a name — for example, *"Ms. Rivera – 1st Grade"*. LitLab generates a unique **class code** that students use to access your class.

        You can create multiple classes for different groups or intervention blocks.

        Add students by using one of two methods:

        | **Enter names manually**  | Small classes; quick setup  |
        | **Copy + paste a roster** | Larger classes; bulk import |

          Student accounts **do not require an email address**. Students log in using your class code and select their name from the roster. See [Signing In](/getting-started/signing-in) for more details.

        Set a starting skill for the class or for individual students. LitLab uses this to filter the library and generator to show level-appropriate stories. You can differentiate by adjusting individual students' skill levels at any time.

## How Students Sign In

Students go to LitLab and enter their **class code**, then select their name from the list. No email, no password — just the code and a tap on their name.

Students with Clever or ClassLink can also sign in through their SSO portal. See [Signing In](/getting-started/signing-in) for more details.
