# LitLab Free vs. LitLab Premium

> Compare LitLab Free and LitLab Premium features, generator limits, reporting, and pricing to pick the right plan for your classroom or school.

LitLab offers a **free tier** so every teacher can use it in their classroom — no budget approval or district contract required. LitLab Free includes Grab-and-Go decodables, custom decodable creation, and a preview of the student fluency platform, with weekly usage limits.

**LitLab Premium** unlocks the full library, unlimited generation and printing, and, with **Full Access**, the complete student fluency platform with AI analysis and progress-monitoring dashboards.

## LitLab Free

LitLab Free is designed so any teacher can get started immediately, with no purchase required.

**Includes:**

* 150 stories from the [Grab-and-Go decodable library](/library/grab-and-go), plus \~150 more when you invite 5 colleagues (see [Refer colleagues](#refer-colleagues-for-more-free-stories))
* 5 custom decodables per week from the [story generator](/generator/fiction-stories)
* 5 story prints/downloads per week — see [Printables](/library/printables-and-formats)
* Limited selection of supported [phonics programs and sequences](/concepts/phonics-alignment)
* Limited comprehension questions and printables
* Limited preview of the [student fluency platform](/practice/oral-reading-fluency), including 5 [AI fluency analyses](/practice/ai-fluency-analysis) per week

LitLab Free works well if you want to try LitLab before a wider rollout, teach a small group, or don't need fluency data or progress monitoring yet.

### Refer colleagues for more free stories

Free-tier teachers can double their Grab-and-Go access by inviting other educators. When teachers refer 5+ colleagues, LitLab unlocks an additional set of \~150 referral-only Grab-and-Go stories on your account, roughly doubling your free story count.

* Locked stories in the library show either an envelope icon (unlocks by referral) or a Premium chip (requires a paid plan), so you can see at a glance which cards a referral will open.
* Referrals apply to the Grab-and-Go library only. They do not raise your weekly generation, printing, or AI fluency analysis limits, and they don't unlock the full Premium library.
* Referral-unlocked stories reset at the start of each school year. Invite colleagues again in the new year to unlock the bonus set for that year.

Look for the "Invite colleagues" prompts in-app to send invites and track progress toward the 5-teacher threshold.

## LitLab Premium

LitLab Premium comes in two subscription options for schools and districts. See [Products & Subscriptions](/getting-started/for-schools) for more detail.
